  • Data quality

Plauti is the better fit for a Salesforce-only team that wants email, phone, and address validation built into existing records with no per-seat cost. Melissa Clean Suite is the better fit if you need SMTP-level mailbox verification, run outside Salesforce, or want one vendor covering deeper address and phone cleansing across multiple systems. Email is still the primary channel for business communication, and a growing share of the addresses sitting in your CRM are fake, misspelled, or abandoned. That costs you twice: a bounced send hurts your sender reputation, and a rep chasing an unreachable contact wastes time on a lead that was never real.

If you're evaluating email validation for Salesforce, the choice usually comes down to a handful of vendors with different validation methods, pricing, and depth of Salesforce integration. This article compares two of them: Plauti and Melissa Clean Suite.

What Plauti offers for email validation in Salesforce

Plauti validates email addresses, phone numbers, and postal addresses directly inside Salesforce, checking each email with a syntax check, a DNS check, and a free-mail check.

Capabilities

  • Validate at entry: checks and formats email addresses, phone numbers, and addresses the moment a record is created or updated.
  • Bulk and API validation: validates records automatically on API insert or bulk upload, so an imported list gets checked without manual re-work.
  • Batch validation: runs validation across an existing list of emails as a single job, for cleaning a database you already have.
  • Spam-trap detection: flags spam traps already in your data. Removing them protects your sender reputation.

Strengths

  • Runs natively inside Salesforce, so admins configure it with existing Salesforce permissions and objects instead of a separate console.
  • No per-seat limit: every Salesforce user in the org can use it without extra licensing.
  • Works with Pardot (Account Engagement) as well as core Salesforce, so validation covers both marketing and sales records.
  • Configuring a validation job needs little Salesforce admin experience; most of it is point-and-click setup.

Limitations

  • Built specifically for Salesforce. An organization on a different CRM can't use it.

What Melissa Clean Suite offers for email validation

Melissa Clean Suite cleanses, verifies, and standardizes phone, address, and email data. Melissa states it identifies up to 95% of bad email addresses and improves deliverability scores; we haven't independently verified that figure.

Melissa offers two service tiers:

  • Global Email Premium: real-time mailbox verification using domain-specific logic, SMTP commands, and Melissa's own matching logic. Melissa states a single address can take up to 12 seconds to validate.
  • Global Email Express: trades some accuracy for speed by checking a cached database of known-good and known-bad addresses instead of validating each address live.

Capabilities

  • Autocomplete: suggests corrections as an email is typed.
  • Deliverability Confidence Score: a percentage estimate of whether an email will reach the inbox.
  • Real-time email check: pings an address live to confirm the mailbox can receive mail.

Strengths

  • Detects mobile domains as part of CAN-SPAM compliance.

Limitations

  • Only four reviews on Salesforce AppExchange at the time of writing, some noting that address autofill and verification don't work on every object.
  • Pricing above 10,000 credits requires a direct sales inquiry rather than a published rate.
  • The two tiers trade off speed against thoroughness rather than offering both at once.
  • No published spam-trap detection, so a list can carry spam traps undetected.

How Plauti and Melissa compare

Affordability

Plauti prices under a cent per email validated. Melissa's published pricing stops at 10,000 credits; beyond that, cost depends on a quote from Melissa's sales team.

User adoption

Both tools validate emails in real time. Plauti runs inside Salesforce with no per-seat limit, so every user in the org can validate records without extra licensing, which makes for an easier rollout on a Salesforce-only team than a tool priced or gated per seat.

Validation methods

Plauti checks the domain with a DNS lookup; Melissa checks the full mailbox with an SMTP command. A DNS check confirms the domain is configured to receive mail. An SMTP check goes further, testing whether the specific mailbox exists and can accept a message.

DNS validation: strengths and limitations

DNS validation is fast because it never opens a connection to the recipient's mail server, and it doesn't send a test message, so it's less intrusive. It confirms the domain is set up correctly, but it can't confirm a specific mailbox exists, and like any method it can still return a false positive.

SMTP validation: strengths and limitations

SMTP validation checks syntax, deliverability, and mailbox existence in one pass, useful when you need to confirm a specific address can accept mail right now. It's more resource-intensive at volume, some mail servers withhold the information it needs (producing false negatives), and it takes more engineering effort to implement.

Which tool fits your Salesforce org

Choose Plauti if your organization runs on Salesforce and wants email, phone, and address validation built into existing records, with no per-seat cost. Choose Melissa Clean Suite if you need SMTP-level mailbox verification, run outside Salesforce, or want one vendor covering deeper address and phone cleansing across multiple systems.

A free Plauti trial includes 100 credits to validate and format email addresses, no credit card required. This comparison reflects each vendor's published features and pricing as of June 2026; check both vendors' sites for current terms before you buy.
